Homogeneity probably helps up to a point. If you're all growing on the same seeds in crop and you get one fungus that crop is vulnerable to, now all of you have a problem because there's no genetic diversity. Like this is why we don't marry cousins because we need diversity. This is for real though. Like this is why Iceland has an app where people can go check, am I dating my cousin? Because it's so small and we know it's a problem.
