About This Episode

Matt reflects on the intense reality of cutting weight during high school wrestling — a routine so demanding it became a deciding factor in not wrestling at the college level. He describes how every meal, every ounce, and every choice became part of the battle, long after leaving the mat. It’s a candid look at how weight management can become all-consuming for young athletes. I remember being in high school and cutting weight for wrestling. And I remember that's one of the main reasons I didn't wrestle in college is cuz I wanted to stop cutting weight. Don't just wrestle on the mat or compete fight on the mat. When you leave, you're still fighting cuz you it's every meal. You're thinking about what you have to have. I knew the I knew what every piece of food weighed to the 0.1 every time. I knew I could eat this and I gained.3. I eat that and I gained point4. I knew exactly where all my weight was. And it was just so all-encompassing.
